Top Overall Seed

The NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Committee released the first look at its top 16 teams Sunday, only to see immediate changes, Monday brought some more. West Virginia's convincing win over Kansas State solidified its No. 5 seed and knocked the Wildcats to a No. 4 seed. Kansas State now must worry about losing its grip on hosting first- and second-round NCAA tournament games. Historically, a top-10 NET rating bodes well for a team ultimately landing in the top 16, but this committee demonstrated Sunday that the NET number alone won't dictate all of its decisions. Kansas State hosts Baylor in a week. If the Wildcats hope to host any more games after that, a win is probably necessary. Getting Ayoka Lee back might be critical to that goal. The 6-foot-6 center, out since late January because of a foot injury, is scheduled to return Saturday.
