Queensland 129 and 9 for 244 (Burns 49, Richardson 4-23) lead Western Australia 281 by 92 runs

Jhye Richardson ripped through some of Queensland's big guns to put Western Australia in a strong position heading into the final day of their Sheffield Shield clash at the Gabba.

The Bulls were 9 for 244 in their second innings at stumps on Friday, a lead of 92 runs. Richardson got the big scalps of Marnus Labuschagne and Joe Burns within the space of three overs shortly after lunch.

In an impressive spell, the right-arm quick had Test No. 3 Labuschagne caught behind fending a rising delivery, before finding the edge of Burns. Richardson, who picked up three wickets in the first innings, dismissed opener Bryce Street in the ninth over and also ended the rearguard action of Jack Wildermuth late in the second session.

He shouldered a greater workload in the absence of left-arm quick Joel Paris, who hasn't bowled since suffering a hamstring injury on day one.

The 25-year-old Richardson, who made his Test debut in Brisbane two years ago, has done his standing in the fast bowling pecking order no harm before Australia's pre-Ashes intra-squad practice games.

Former Test opener Matthew Renshaw and tailender Gurinder Sandhu shared a 78-run stand but both fell in the fifteen minutes before stumps.

After a gritty 70 in the Queensland's first innings of 129, in-form Ashes hopeful Usman Khawaja was caught at first slip for just eight off Cameron Gannon. The Bulls lost 4-15 in the middle session after Burns and Labuschagne got them to 1 for 91 at lunch.

Michael Neser batted with a runner but is long odds to bowl after straining his right hamstring on the opening day of the match. Queensland physio Martin Love said further scans would be conducted in coming days but was confident Neser would be available for selection for the opening Test against England on December 8.

WA made 281 in their first innings on Thursday with Josh Philippe's second first-class century and his highest career score the highlight.

It remains to be seen where WA veteran Shaun Marsh will bat. He was forced to retire with a calf injury in the first innings but later returned with the assistance of a runner.
