Mushfiqur, Litton centuries flatten Ireland

Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das centuries flattened Ireland BCB

Bangladesh 387 for 5 (Mushfiqur 106, Litton 103*, McBrine 4-100) vs Ireland

It was a morning of milestones for Bangladesh as Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das notched up centuries in the second Test against Ireland in Mirpur. The hosts went to lunch on the second day on 387 for 5 to ratchet up the pressure on the visitors.

Litton was unbeaten on 103, having added 77 runs for the unbroken fifth wicket with Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who was on 30 not out. This was Litton's first Test century in more than a year, incidentally in his 100th first-class match.

The day started with the excitement of Mushfiqur completing his century. Unbeaten overnight on 99, the 38-year-old reached his ton on the ninth ball of the morning, becoming the 11th batter to score a century in his 100th Test.

After Mushfiqur's milestone was out of the way, Litton reached his half-century on the next ball. Mushfiqur, however, fell shortly afterwards, edging a Matthew Humphreys snorter that Andy Balbirnie snared at second slip. Mushfiqur just struck five fours in his 106 off 214 balls.

Litton and Mehidy struck a string of fours and sixes from the 99th to 106th over, before the pair went slow for a while. Litton went from 91 to 97 with a six, before a sweep brought him his fifth Test century.

It was another morning of toil for the Ireland bowlers, who did not have much luck going their way. There were a few close shouts against Mushfiqur early in the day, but nothing much to show for it as Bangladesh notched up 95 runs in the first session for the loss of only one wicket.
