Toss New Zealand chose to bowl vs West Indies
After rain and wet outfield delayed proceedings by close to three hours, New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner won the toss and under murky skies, had no hesitation to bowl in the 34-overs-a-side second ODI against West Indies in Napier.
"Under covers, when there is rain around, you want to know what to chase," Santner said at the toss while confirming three changes made to their playing XI from the opening ODI.
New Zealand have brought in allrounder Nathan Smith in place of Zak Foulkes, while fast bowler Blair Tickner replaced Jacob Duffy, who has been rested. There was a forced change in the batting order, with Mark Chapman coming in for Daryl Mitchell, who has been ruled out of the ODI series with a groin tear.
West Indies captain Shai Hope said he wanted to bowl as well, but "will have to put the runs on the board now." The visitors have made one change to their unit with top-order batter Ackeem Auguste replacing Alick Athanaze.
"The lower order has been pulling us out of some deep holes; time for the top order to stand up," Hope said at the toss.
New Zealand won the opening ODI in Christchurch by seven runs and a win in Napier will give them an unbeatable 2-0 lead.
