Toss West Indies chose to bowl vs New Zealand

Shai Hope won the toss in Christchurch and decided West Indies were better off chasing in the first of three ODIs against New Zealand on Sunday. The visitors had five changes from their last game, against Bangladesh in October, with John Campbell set to play a 50-over international for the first time in six years.

New Zealand welcomed back their premier new-ball bowler Matt Henry after he recovered from a calf strain. He was joined by Kyle Jamieson, whose back issues have eased off enough to let him play the longer formats. Blair Tickner and Nathan Smith were shifted to the bench. On the batting front, Will Young brought up his 50th ODI appearance.

West Indies were content with just the one spinner having seen a surface with a tiny bit of grass on it. In came Jayden Seales, Matthew Forde, Shamar Springer and Romario Shepherd to bolster their pace attack, taking the places of Akeal Hosein, Gudakesh Motie, Khary Pierre and Ackeem Auguste. Brandon King had made way at the top of the order for Campbell's return.

New Zealand: 1 Devon Conway, 2 Rachin Ravindra, 3 Will Young, 4 Daryl Mitchell, 5 Tom Latham (wk), 6 Michael Bracewell, 7 Mitchell Santner (capt), 8 Zak Foulkes, 9 Kyle Jamieson, 10 Matt Henry, 11 Jacob Duffy

West Indies: 1 John Campbell, 2 Alick Athanaze, 3 Keacy Carty, 4 Shai Hope (capt & wk), 5 Sherfane Rutherford, 6 Justin Greaves, 7 Matthew Forde, 8 Romario Shepherd, 9 Roston Chase, 10 Shamar Springer, 11 Jayden Seales
