CLINTON, S.C. -- Former Presbyterian head coach Tommy Spangler has been promoted to the program's top job once more. Athletic director Brian Reese announced the move Tuesday. Spangler, the team's defensive coordinator the past four seasons, was with the Blue Hose from 1997 through 2006. He spent his first five seasons as a defensive assistant before becoming head coach. Spangler led the team to a 42-24 record in NCAA Division II. Spangler replaces Harold Nichols, who resigned Sunday after eight seasons. Spangler says he was happy about the opportunity to come back to coaching Presbyterian. Reese said he believes in the vision Spangler has for the program. Presbyterian plays in the Big South Conference in the Football Championship Subdivision.
