Women's boxing divisional rankings: Shields takes over another division

Claressa Shields is currently holding world titles in three weight classes after winning the WBC heavyweight belt and the WBO light heavyweight belt -- on the same night -- Saturday in Detroit.

Shields 15-0, 3 KOs) defeated Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse by second-round TKO in a dominant performance in front of her hometown fans. In women's boxing, the WBC's heavyweight division is for fighters 175 pounds and over. The WBO doesn't sanction a heavyweight division, but its light heavyweight is also for fighters 175 pounds and over. For that reason, Shields is now a champion at heavyweight (WBC), light heavyweight (WBO) and middleweight, where she's the undisputed champion.

"Wherever I campaign, I can find a fight," Shields said after the fight about what division she wants to be active in moving forward. "I'm going to talk to my team and decide if we want to go down and defend my middleweight titles or stay at heavyweight and chase more world titles.

With the win, Shields takes over the 175-pound and up division, while maintaining her top spot at 160 pounds.

Rankings will be updated every Tuesday. They'll be based on recent bouts, head-to-head competition and the quality of opponent. As with almost everything, until fighters square off against one another, there is a layer of subjectivity to it. Fighters who haven't fought in 18 months and don't have a fight scheduled will be removed from the rankings until they fight again.
