To return to the NCAA tournament, a team needs contributions from both returning players and incoming recruits. Here's a look at Maryland and its chances of dancing again in 2016.
Quick references:
Possible 2015-16 starting five
G: Melo Trimble
F: Jake Layman
C: Damonte Dodd
Who is lost: The main piece who graduates for the Terrapins is do-everything wing Dez Wells. He was not only one of the team's leading scorers but he was also the heart and soul. He will be tough to replace. Richaud Pack, Evan Smotrycz and Jon Graham were all effective role players who gave this season's squad key minutes.
Who is added: Transfer Robert Carter is the key addition coming over from Georgia Tech. He averaged 11 points and eight rebounds for Tech and should step into a prominent role immediately. Jaylen Brantley is a solid point guard who can shoot. He should play a backup role next season and is insurance in case Trimble decides to go the NBA route early.
What it means for next season: The key will be Trimble. If he returns, Maryland will still be good and should finish well into the top half of the Big Ten. Layman, Nickens and Wiley will handle the perimeter while Carter should be a force inside.
Trending: Down, slightly: Wells is a huge loss, but if Trimble returns, the Terrapins should still be one of the Big Ten's best.
