Our recruit and return series continues with a look at the Florida State Seminoles, who lost on Saturday in the Elite Eight to Michigan. Here's a look at what 2018-19 may bring:
Possible 2018-19 starting five:
G: CJ Walker
G: PJ Savoy
F: Terance Mann
Who is lost: Phil Cofer charted an interesting career in Tallahassee, going from the starting lineup as a freshman to a reserve role the next two seasons before becoming a starter once more as a senior. He is now gone, as is fellow 2017-18 starter Braian Angola. The 3-point shooting volume supplied by those two seniors will be missed.
Who is added: Travis Light, a 6-foot-5 guard who redshirted last season as a freshman, is now eligible. In addition, Leonard Hamilton has signed Devin Vassell, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Suwanee, Georgia.
What it means for next season: The Seminoles won't lack for experience, with Mann, CJ Walker and Koumadje returning as starters, and Forrest, MJ Walker, Savoy and Ike Obiagu coming back as seasoned rotation players. Mann, in particular, could be positioned for a strong senior season. True, the 6-foot-6 wing slash stretch-4 may want to reconsider the "stretch" part after three seasons' worth of 27 percent 3-point shooting. Nevertheless, Mann is relentless in the paint, converting 56 percent of his 2s against ACC defenses and drawing better than four fouls per 40 minutes. CJ Walker improved many of his numbers in 2017-18 in conference play, giving every indication that he can step into an even larger role next season. Forrest gives Hamilton good size as a 6-foot-5 pass-first point guard who defends, and 3-point specialist Savoy should have a green light after missing seven games with a knee injury as a junior. Meanwhile, as a sophomore, MJ Walker could reveal even more of the promise that led him to be ranked as the No. 27 recruit in the 2017 ESPN 100. Lastly, Hamilton will have his usual "go huge" option in terms of personnel, thanks to the 7-foot-4 Koumadje and the 7-foot-0 Obiagu.
Trending: Neutral. With nominal 2017-18 reserves like Forrest, MJ Walker and Savoy, who nevertheless saw heavy minutes, Hamilton appears to have the experience to step into roles previously filled by Cofer and Angola. A better question, however, might be who replaces last season's reserves and whether FSU will once again have the deep rotation we've grown accustomed to seeing in Tallahassee.
