'Not good enough': Why the AFL's 'soft call' in score reviews has to go (2:49)

Mason Cox and Jarryd Barca call for the AFL to scrap the 'soft call' and finally introduce proper technology, arguing it's time the league took advice from other sports and found a system that actually works. (2:49)

After every round of the 2025 AFL season, ESPN's football writers will come together and determine who should hold a place in their rolling All-Australian team.

So, who deserves a coveted blazer if the season were to end right now?

Changes from Round 7

INS: After a pair of dominant performances, it's time Melbourne skipper Max Gawn retakes his rightful crown as the best ruck in the competition. Speaking of an impressive fortnight, Hawthorn recruit Josh Battle has been in scintillating form and has to be rewarded with a blazer. In the forward half of the ground, dynamic Crow Izak Rankine makes his first appearance in the All-Australian team.

OUTS: We're only rolling with one ruck in this team and the addition of Gawn means Carlton's Tom de Koning had to make way. Paul Curtis, currently serving a three-game suspension, also falls off the team, as does Lachie Whitfield, who has been in a mini slump in recent weeks.

In the mix, and those on notice

Once again, two-time Brownlow Medal winner Lachie Neale can consider himself pretty stiff to not be in the side, but another big performance and he's in. We're also keeping our eyes on a couple of Bulldogs, skipper Marcus Bontempelli and Ed Richards, who currently leads the league in score involvements. Jack Gunston is also in the frame for a spot in the team after booting 20 goals through his first six games.

With so many banging on the door for selection, there are a number of players who would want to perform this week. GWS skipper Toby Greene is overdue for a big game, while Tom Liberatore and George Hewett will be hoping to hold their bench spots.
